Well we just love the Volsted Lounge, which smells like a thrift store and looks like a well-worn bordello. Great swanky-trashy ambiance, and for whatever amazing luck, it isn't too crowded yet. Which is really good for the bathrooms, as the ladies' room only has one stall on a teeny platform with this cool phone-booth-esque door right off the bar. Basically, if like ten more people find out about this place, the bathroom will almost always be in use, so shut up already.

The Brixton! Yaaaay

The Brixton is a small, dank dive bar, which we pretty much love and if you don't get it, don't go. It's really too small to visit if you aren't planning to have an awesome time the second you walk in the door, so spare everyone the 'tude. We make best friends every time we go here - they're pictured. Oh, and look! Functional bathrooms with obscene graffiti! Beer, whiskey, people, fun, and working facilities that also entertain. With a Poo Blog shoutout on the cash register! We're good.

We were pretty fond of the Yellow Jacket, a newish hipster bar on Austin's East Side with a full coffee menu, taps of luscious beers, booze, a swell staff and authentic Frito pie. And wow, what great rest rooms! We only popped into the women's room but man is it neat in there. All the wood from the place was sourced from older buildings, and the bathroom is trimmed in sturdy twigs. A stone wolf lurks in the larger stall, but serves as a protector, not a threat. A black-and-white photo of a rugged, American football player is nestled into the branches framing the mirror, to further pump one up.
My only complaint would be that the stall without the wolf statue is a bit narrow. This poo blog contributor is 5"10 and a size 14 (real talk!) and turning completely sideways was the only way to fit through the door. Anyone larger will have to use the roomier stall.
Because the beer served here works so well, this blogger accidentally left her phone in the loo. But someone returned it to the bar and the phone was returned! We love cool new bars with excellent. functional bathrooms decorated with re-purposed wood. Yay, Yellow Jacket!

This Eco-Hip store on North Lamar and 33rd is a rad place to shop for cool and unique gifts. Very friendly staff that will help you pick out a gift for your mom or sister. They also have Dog toys that your doggie will love. If you're shopping and find the need to hit the bathroom then go for it. Bathrooms are very clean and they even have an automatic trash can. How cool is that!?

I walked into bennu at 11pm on a Sunday. The place was packed. The inside and out was full of students on their laptops taking life and homework way too seriously. The smell of over achievers, coffee beans and adderoll was in the air. I love coffee because it helps release the poo. So I down 2 cups of their dark roast with a teaspoon of honey and wait for business as usual. I walk into the pristine bathroom complete with "intelletual grafiti" ok it wasn't graff it was an ornate chalkboard with plenty of colorful chalk to let students and teachers interact in the lou. Let it be known to you college kids and cheapos, they leave a few spare rolls of t.p in the bathroom which is handy if you like to steal toilet paper like me! The bathroom at bennu is 24 hrs of pristine privacy. A classy bathroom with all the essentials. Though the coffee shop it self is kind of lame. The product is good but the crowd is studying constantly giving it the enviornment of a study hall and not of a relaxing cafe. The lights are actually dimmer in the bathroom than they are in the shop! So my tip, talk your mug and a magazine to bennu's crapper. Its really the best seat in the house!

Decent bathrooms with working locks. Cheap drinks. Great Bartenders. Some free video games. They have a Dirty's Limo which you can have pick you up (they work on Tips by the way).

It's fair to say that every punk's black heart shrunk and shriveled to a wee size when the news that Danzig would be headlining Fun Fun Fun Fest 4 broke in the 2009. Let me preface this by underlining the fact that, no, the toilet on Danzig's tour bus does NOT have a little step stool. The diminutive singer who xeroxed the logo that is now made into lunchboxes and lightswitch plates for the gothy set is also the world's darkest Elvis impersonator, which means Danzig could die on the toilet one day!! This toilet pic could be historical!! My first punk record was the Dead Kennedys, and in all honesty, I view Danzig as something of a punchline, so imagine the snickers when a poo blog pal somehow gained super VIP entry to Danzig's tour bus and was able to get this shot.
Fun (Fun Fun) fact: Via Facebook, I learned that the reason Danzig's drummer's riser is so high is because Danzig doesn't like to bend down to get his water. Ooo-kayyy.

The Horseshoe is one of South Lamar's oldest dive bars. This place has earned its stripes in getting Southies drunk, and continues the fine tradition in classic, rustic Austin style: gritty, sand-strewn shuffleboard court, faded UT banners, drinkers from weary and creased to fresh-faced (ahem), country to metal. Their bathrooms have an old-school feel and yet are quite accommodating. Perfect to accept your waste, whatever school your poo may be from.

And the house is way considerate to ladies - witness the almost bouquet-like arrangement of tampons, housed in a clear glass vase. Those are complimentary, ladies! Free tampons!

Hey, we take our job at the poo blog very seriously. Even the fanciest party at a world-class hotel is not free from our scrutiny. We will penetrate and photograph all of kinds of bathrooms, be they encrusted in marble and gold plate or fecal matter and hair. We are just that dedicated! So imagine the sheer glee in visiting the restrooms at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, a swanky yet still warm and friendly place (if you're not scaaared of its opulence) with truly bangin' bathrooms.

Witness the marble, the sheen, the almost cloth-but-still-disposable hand towels, and the best part: the toilet paper is folded to a point and then dabbed with a gold sticker to maintain its freshness and purity. We are agog. Well played, Four Seasons. Well played.

North Loop Mini Mart!!

Now that Sound on Sound has closed, I'd bet that beer, JOOSE, and Sparks sales from this grody mini-mart have plummeted like the hopes of the unemployed. We ran in during the North Loop iBiz block party (which ruled) and slipped back to the rest room to check things out. Amazingly, the can is not too gross, stocked with cleaning supplies and paper, and seems perfectly accommodating to accept your waste! Even though soda and other stuff is right outside the door, this is not Austin's grossest place to poop, not by a long shot. Three stars!!

This, the former Real World Austin house, is a fun, slightly glam Mexican restaurant that always has live music and can get boisterous at times. Man were we ever pleased when we tagged along for a drink after hanging a Headhunter's for a minute. Bull McCabe's bathrooms are very efficient, and we do appreciate the DWI lawyer's strategically placed ad.

Gumbo's/The Historic Brown Building

One night we got to go to Gumbo's for a luxurious dinner of tasty New Orleans-styled cuisine. Gumbo's is in the historic Brown Building, which according to its wiki page, was completed in 1938 and was home to the holding corporation for the Lyndon Johnson family. So you can bet Ladybird Johnson has pooed in here! And maybe even Jackie O! In the 2000s, this awesome building was converted to loft apartments, but the bathroom still enjoys a semi-public status, at least if one is stealthy enough and looks like they're just popping in while en route to a fancy restaurant or condo. Despite its young age, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, so this has got to be one of the most important terlets added to the poo blog next to the ones in the Capitol! And we really dig the tile! Black grout keeps it looking awesome even after seventy years.

Let it never be said that the poo blog has no sense of tradition and honor. Yes, no bathroom is ever safe, and everywhere is fair game, but awesome bathrooms are revered and treasured. And look how close the apple falls from the tree! This sweet dual flusher was recently installed by none other than Duece La Duece's very own MOM, who knows quality and cares about conserving water!! See the two little buttons by the pretty pretty purple tissue box? One is for poop, and the other pee. Regular old one-flush terlets use from 3.5 to 7 gallons per flush, and these new dual flusher johns use only 0.8 or 0.9 for fluid (pee) and 1.25 to 1.6 gallons for solid waste (poo!). Oh, and this is butter posting, and I got all the above info from a martha stewart publication (guess which one!!) and they refer further inquiries on the subject to dualflushtoilet.net. So yeah, in closing, Duce La Duece's mom rules and her terlet isn't bad either.

Herm's Palace, right outside Chicago in Evanston, IL, is an awesome family joint that doesn't use computers or even WRITE ANY ORDERS DOWN when you make them. They can literally remember the food orders of 40 people and not screw it up. Their food is sublime. But getting to the can is a challenge. You have to go downstairs (don't hit your head, the door is low clearance) to the basement. Spoooky.

If you're one of those Austinites that can name the exact date that this town stopped being cool, which has something to do with an icehouse closing, you may very likely hate FRANK. We wouldn't know how cool Austin was; we moved here long after Austin stopped being cool and are using up all the water and jobs that are left, and making fun of select bathrooms in our spare time.

FRANK is a spanking-new hot dog joint that tries to look old and makes and slings "artisanal" sausages. That means fancily hand-crafted. FRANK is a hipster/yuppie joint that does have decent food, but even the noobs in town will pop their Yankee monocles at tallboys of beer priced at $3. Gasp anew at the baskets of waffle fries, which will set you back $7. In case you wondered where the hell FRANK is spending all that cash, let us show you. Their bathrooms are strip-club fancy with granite sinks and a cool toilet paper holder (not pictured) that made us want a bigger bag so we could steal it. But stealing is wrong. Wrong!! Almost as wrong as charging $8 for a beef sausage sandwich. Oh, calm down we bitch because we love.

The Liberty Bar

We love cheap shitty dive bars as much if not more than the next person, and true to form, the Liberty Bar is a drunk's dream come true: Two vodka sodas and a Lone Star cost just $8.50 when we visited. Even though this joint is brand-new, it's pretty clear the owners spent more time curating the graffiti art and packing down the dirt in the bocce ball court than fixing up the bathrooms. The ladies' is a tactical disaster: swinging doors made of plywood, even when carved in a charming, Western saloon style, do not work. They neither open nor will they properly close. This means instant bonding , as every single woman attempting to use said loo will utter a "What the hell" which will be echoed by an "I KNOW, RIGHT!!" Also, the mirrors are in a disastrous state. Warning us that they're about to collapse is not quite good enough when someone is bleeding. The men's room has a trough - so old school. Yet another great bar with a shitty bathroom. Home at last.

Mesa Ranch South

Tucked away in the corner of a Clarion, the Mesa Ranch is a super-cute extreme-Texan-themed restaurant and bar. Kickass cuisine, fierce margaritas, live music (often with no cover), and yes, kitchy, tin-sign taxidermy crap all over the walls including the bathrooms!! We totally walked in on a dude trying to pee (we knocked, he hadn't locked the door and I guess dudes walk in on each other all the time when they're pissing. Gross!) so we hope you like the pic of the urinal, which is adjacent to dangling mega-fishing lures. The ladies' room door says "COWGIRLS," naturally. The paper towel holder is a tooled leather basket and a metal sign underlines the serious importance of continued, dedicated drinking. The Mesa Ranch is fun, we'll be back.

In the shadow of the Capitol building is Silhouette Sushiya, a totally cool sushi, cocktail and karaoke bar. We love it for lunch, the art on the walls, and the extended happy hours during which we feel like such grown-ups as we get smashed. And man, is the ladies' bathroom ever sweet! They are as sophisticated as the rest of the place, and even elegant with the honkin' chandeliers and glass bowl sink that reminds us of the one we used at Rick's Cabaret . In another life, we would have been tempted to stuff the awesome, organic hand soap resting on the dark wooden cabinet into our handbag . But those days are over and we plan to return to Silhouette soon, so we just washed up with the free-range lovely suds, took these pics and left.

So, what else is there to do in College Station than to gig 'em and attend fire school trade shows? Well, Dixie Chicken is pretty popular. Its rustic-looking facade, one million taxidermied deer heads, and olde-timey amusinge signs on the walls make Red Lobster look like a five-star yuppie joint. People line up, order their food, then drink beer and play dominoes while they wait.

The ladies' room in Dixie Chicken is something of a horrorshow where crazy tin signs take on a twisted, awful new meaning. No antibacterial soap nor hot water is enough to remove the overwhelming feeling of ickiness this rest room provokes. We were digging the vibe in the Dixie Chicken until we visited the ladies', and maybe, just maybe, a bunch of beers wold help us see it differently. Maybe.

College Station is just 110 miles from the ATX, but man is it ever Aggie-ful and large-animal-hospital-y and rustic and Texan college-town in a way we kind of enjoyed. Our intention was to visit Disaster City, a massive, 32-acre training facility for fire fighters complete with scenarios like "FLAMING OIL WELL" and "COLLAPSED MINI-MALL," but we found something even better - a full-sized, porcelain toilet housed in a fire truck!! Can you believe this?

This real toilet was custom-built into a fire truck for Riverside FD.
We were floored at the ingenuity. God knows the people that run into burning buildings to save lives deserve every comfort and necessity available right by their sides - and if it wasn't available before, it is now! Way to go, Riverside FD. We salute you, and your can!

THE CRAPITOL (aka the Capitol)

Austin's capitol dome is a beehive of activity. Inside is a lot of glossy marble, too many tourists, a sweet cafeteria that slings killer chicken salad sandwiches, and even more impressive, accommodating bathrooms that are nicer than we expected. We popped into the Capitol Grill for lunch one day (yum, and cheap), and then of course had to check out the facilities. They are pretty sweet! They could be some of the best in town. - Butter

This old school fish market has been around for ever. I've lived in Austin almost 2 years now and have never been until a co-worker of mine suggested we go for lunch. I had Shrimp Po-Boy which was amazing! I decided after my Po-Boy to hit up the bathrooms and check em out. The walk down that long hallway was a little scary especially cause the bus boy was on the phone and was a little weird. But once I got to the bathrooms they were very nice. A Plus!

A Co-Worker of mine told me to check out Continental Club's bathroom which was ironic cause I already had plans to go to here last Saturday. This bathroom is up there with Emo's. Smells so bad and there's no way in hell you could shit here (unless you had a friend guard the door). If you are drinking here and feel the need to shit then I would head to Homeslice as they have nice bathrooms.

Chuy's South, right off the William Cannon exit off MoPac, is suburban and idyllic so far away and yet still has fierce competition for the free queso during happy hour. Bitches camp out waiting for their free cheese and chips. The bathrooms are just as tough yet rewarding with the lady luchador masked door, and gorgeous tile in the loo. Super pretty tile! We here at the poo blog are lucky to have friends who get us. Our pals get us sofa king much that when they buy sweet houses, they let us take pictures of their amazing 1970's bathrooms and share them with you, dear poo blog fans.

Michelle's house, deep in South Philadelphia, came with dark, faux-wood paneling, linoleum on the kitchen walls (wall-noleum?), and this awesome bathroom. The sink and counter top were there when she moved in. She found the shower curtain, and painted the walls blue.

Her roommate is an awesome thrift shopper, and found this holiday-themed toilet seat cozy at a nearby thrift store. We at the poo blog love it so much we have few words, just misty eyes and full hearts. - Butter

The Salt Lick is some of Austin's - well, Driftwood, Texas, technically - most amazing barbecue. We love driving there, making the pilgrimage, and waiting for a seat for hours in the gorgeous countryside. The food is amazing, the indoor smoker practically illegal, and the bathrooms? Most of Austin's aging punk rockers have found a safe haven in 710, which is a perfectly wonderful dump (think Emo's, or CBGB) in which to see The Dicks or MDC or The Hickoids. We love it there, and the ladies' room is quite hospitable. In photographs, 710's can seems cool and architectural with its sleek metal walls. It seems any band from any city can affix a sticker to the walls of 710 and it will remain there for a length of time; we know we've gazed at The Safe's sticker for probably a few hours over the years. 7 out of 10 - ha ha. - Butter

We love A.C. for the gaming, drinking, and its boardwalk, rife with feral cats, novelty gifts and hawkers inviting you to learn more about vacation timeshares. We can't go to A.C. and not visit the Ripley's Believe it or Not! museum of oddities and curios - mostly creative taxidermy and torture implements from the German and Spanish empires. We were midway through the tour when a museum staffer urged us to check out the bathrooms. At first we were all, "Is the poo blog *this* well-known?" Then we realized that the can at Ripley's is like everything else in the place - an opportunity for a gag. We loved the farting noises running continuously, and the bulls-eyes on the urinals are a nice touch. We only wish Ripley's ultimate bathroom gag - a door marked "-MENS" which opens part-way to reveal an anamatronic male figure peeing as a tape plays, "HEY! CLOSE THE DOOR!" was easily photographed. Either way - Ripley's museum and loos should be on every poo blog fan's master list of destination terlets. - Butter

For out-of-this world sushi, you have to go to Uchi. The food is incredible - amazing flavor profiles, the freshest ingredients, prepared by world-renowned chefs. Chef Tyson Cole even competed on Iron Chef, against Morimoto! And true to form, Uchi's restrooms are every bit as elegant and hospitable as the restaurant itself. While the ladies' room only has two stalls, we noticed more than two women can manage to squeeze in for a little girl-talk, making Uchi's loo something of a clown car. It can magically fit as many people that decide they have to be in there! Just another reason to check out Uchi

Wow, were we ever surprised at Red 7's awesome renovations. The place feels huge, less awkward than before, and perfectly Commie/Soviet Russia themed. The women's bathroom is almost elegant with gold walls and cute light fixtures, but there it is, scrawled in black marker on black paint: Graffiti that reads "ASSHOLE." The terlets themselves work fine, and there's even a "handicapped" stall if you like to pee in groups. For the Red River/6th St District, you could do a lot worse!

we snuck into Salvation Pizza (we almost stole the Golden Boys/Hex
Dispenser gig poster hanging up outside!) to check out their
bathrooms, and boy are they ever snazzy. The stencils painted onto
their tables in the dining rooms also flew into their loos! Lots of
privacy and tons of cute stuff to look at - and even a smart-ass sign
on the urinal! Pretty perfect.

TRIPLE CROWN TATTOO!

We kept a pal company during her lengthy session at Triple Crown
Tattoo and found pure joy and total perfection in their bathroom. It's
so clean, we'd birth babies in there. In a shocking twist, when we
asked to photograph said loo for the blog, the tattooists at Triple
Crown so love their bathroom that they've already used it in a photo
shoot for a national magazine! And they said they would love it if
theirs became a "destination bathroom"! Talk about brilliant! To us,
it makes perfect sense. A tattoo shop should be meticulously clean -
all of it, not just the can - and Triple Crown is. Also, the shop has
no flash hanging up, just tattoo art on the walls, and the john has
some of the cutest work, including cocks fighting (hence the name),
and, a painting we love so much, "Two Pugs, One Cup."
Triple Crown Tattoo is mostly an appointment-only shop and doesn't get a ton of walk-in traffic, so the average joe or jane doe may not have a chance to stop in and use the facilities. But keep an eye open for an art opening or special event, go, be polite, and use that terlet.
You'll be so glad you did.

The Shangri-La, a new bar owned by the Beerland people over on E. 6th St., has one of the loveliest backyard patios we've ever laid eyes on, a really fun basement bar, and it's own trademark scent for the hand soap in the loo! We couldn't be more pleased with Shangri-La's ladies' room, which is pretty much a perfect place to poo with its working lock, total privacy, and pleasant aroma!

near Manchaca - with live music, pool, shuffle board, and a nice big
soccer field out back if you feel like taking a walk. There's a pair

Nestled in the shadow of the capitol rests the Texas Chili Parlor, a charming, rustic, honky-tonk with killer chili, nachos, and anything you like to drink. This is a cool, ancient bar, and we love to drink in the main room. BUT - here in Texas, you can bet our BUTS are bigger - the bathrooms in the T C P are a serial killer's wet dream. Creepy and closed in, but with plenty of angles to hide behind and peep at an unsuspecting user. Junkies, beware: there are no locks on the women's room door, and though there are two stalls, there is zero privacy, because there are no doors: just clear shower curtains. Lots of creepy graffiti spatter the asylum-white walls. I don't even want to pee in there, let alone poo! Oh Texas Chili Parlor, please, fix up your terlets.

Except for winding down and around long hallways - never good if you're in a rush - this is a perfect place to poo. We love Barfly's the most: cheap drinks, friendly staff, cool regulars. And how about this awesome ladies' room! Even the lone toilet can't dampen our enthusiasm for what may be the most perfect place to poo in East Austin: four toilet paper holders are always stocked, and several rolls wait in position to be called into duty (heh). There is a cute little waiting room which can fit two friendly ladies, but the actual terlet is built for one, meaning you can poo freely and often.

We went to Rick's Cabaret only to see Little Tina, midget stripper. The gentlemanly sports-bar vibe of the place isn't our favorite, but Little Tina was the bomb. And check out the expensive-looking bathrooms! The women's room has these fabulous sinks where the water flows over your hands like a swish of a hair extension across your face. The slate floors and lovely wood walls are gorgeous, but look at how a carelessly placed roll of t.p. and some paper on the floor can ruin everything! We are glad we got to take pics here, since if we tried to take them in the main room we would have gotten karate-chopped across the parking lot.

the Jackalope ladies' room is pretty great, stocked with four terlets, two sinks, two paper towel holders, soap. But try the stall all the way to the right as you face the sinks. There's a scent mister thing stuck on the wall there that puffs a blast of perfume 23598459824 times a minute, or at least often enough that you really notice it. Thank you?
